New Laws Regarding Cell Phones & Driving

A reminder for students and parents, the use of cell phones or other electronic devices, are prohibited by law, while operating a motor vehicle within a school zone. Persons under the age of 19, while holding a graduated license, may not drive a vehicle on a roadway while using a wireless phone. No one may operate a motor vehicle on a roadway while using an electronic communication device to compose, send or read an electronic message (texting). Students with a graduated license are not allowed to have more than one passenger in the vehicle for the first year that they have their driver’s license. This is for the first year that the driver’s license was issued, not until they turn 17. The only exception is immediate family members in the vehicle.

New Dismissal Traffic Pattern

In an effort to maintain a safe dismissal procedure for student drivers, starting on Monday, October 31, 2011, KHS will be changing the flow of traffic for students leaving the parking lot during the first 30 minutes after school is released and on early release days. Students will no longer be able to exit the parking lot directly onto Keslinger Road. Vehicles will exit from behind the school onto Meredith Road and may then turn onto Keslinger Rd. Vehicles will not be allowed to cut through the transportation/maintenance parking lot, the road to the Middle School and/or the road in front of the District Office to Keslinger Road. Notifications of this change will be handed out to all students with parking passes. Security and staff will be outside to assist with traffic control. Please encourage your student to use extreme caution when driving through the parking lot.

Students with after school clubs and activities, or students leaving the school after the 30 minute window may exit onto Keslinger Road. More »
